Create your own personalized DIY makeup organizer box with divider inserts. Made from inexpensive craft boards and wood glue, this fabulous makeup organizer is sure to store your cosmetics and other beauty products. Are you ready to reclaim your bathroom space?
This project has been a LONG time coming. Before I go into the tutorial, let me show you what my bathroom vanity looked like on a DAILY basis.
BEFORE
Behold my makeup CHAOS!
This is what my bathroom vanity looked like ALL. THE .TIIIIME.!! When it was time to clean the bathroom, I would simply move my lovely things out of the way, then put them right back. Sometimes I would try to be “organized” and shove them in a makeup bag under the sink, only to retrieve them again the next day and continue my cycle of leaving everything on the vanity.
I came to the conclusion the only solution that would work would be to create a makeup organizer that fit right in the same corner I am used to leaving all of my makeup. Since we only have one sink in our master bathroom, my sweet, patient, husband has navigated around my chaos on a daily basis to shave and brush his teeth. Bless him!
No doubt he is the happiest of all I came up with this solution!

First: About the Boards
You can absolutely create this makeup organizer box with NO POWER TOOLS. I used craft boards (pine project boards). They are light and thin, roughly about 3/8” to ½” thick They come in 3-foot lengths and can be purchased at a big box store and some craft stores. I got the 4” and 6” wide boards. I bought mine at Lowe’s. I did not see them available online. You can have them cut the boards to size for you at the store or use a hand saw to make the cuts.

STEP 1: Make the Cuts
If you want to make these customizable to your space, you can create your own pattern, like I did. Take your measurements to the store or use a hand saw to make the cuts.
For these plans the 4” boards are shown in green and the 6” boards in blue. When you make all your cuts, you should end up with 9 pieces as shown below.
STEP 2: Glue the 2 side pieces to the bottom
These pieces are your 3- 20” craft boards. Put wood glue at the seams and either clamp or place something heavy on top until the glue dries.
STEP 3: Glue the two end pieces
Next, glue the two 4″ end pieces the same way. I propped it up and used a heavy book to make sure the glue took good hold.
STEP 4: Glue wood plugs
Glue the flat head wood plugs wherever you want to place the dividers. Remember to glue them far enough apart to hold the dividers in place. Make sure they line up on both sides so your dividers will be straight.
STEP 5: Slide the dividers in place
Now it’s starting to get FUN! Coming together.
STEP 6: Prep the Lid
Glue four flat head wood plugs under the lid to keep it from sliding. I opted to cut the lid short and keep one end open for my makeup brushes. If you prefer to cover the entire box cut the piece the same length as the bottom piece (20″).
Not bad hey? Now glue on a handle and you’re SET!
If you decide to leave the open space, fill it with rock pebbles to hold your brushes in style!
STEP 7: Enjoy your makeup organizer and re-claim your space!
